Belvin

Update from Africa!

Belvin was seen on 03/06/2010 by Mary, who is a representative of The Hotcourses Foundation in Africa. The following report was made:
Belvin goes to St. Marks Academy which is quite far from his home in Huruma. Earlier on Belvin was going to Mogra Star Academy. To get to school he has to wake up very early because he has to use 2 vehicles to get to school, though he said he has gotten used to it now. He really likes his new school because of its good environment and the good teachers who are friendly. There is lots of discipline too in his school. The school provides lunch for the students. 16 year old Belvin is now in class 8. He was position 7 out of 60 students with 304 marks out of 500. He lives with mother and Auntie. He helps them to clean utensils, cleans the house and washes his own clothes. Belvin would like to see his sponsor and also requested for a bicycle. He would like to be a mechanical engineer in future.

Belvin is 16 years old and lives in the Mathare North area of Nairobi. His mum married in 1990 but the father ran away from home when Belvin got sick in 2003. Belvin tested HIV positive along with his mother.

His mother also has TB. She now lives alone with Belvin and his brother, making a living from doing cleaning and laundry jobs.

Belvin wants to be a pilot, but the first challenge is to complete primary school.
