Ivy W
Ivy’s mother is now a single parent. Her father separated in 2005. Ivy came to Lea Toto in July 2008 and is receiving antiretroviral treatment. She is 9 years old. She has an older brother and her younger sister received PMTCT treatment at birth in 2004 so Ivy is the only child who is HIV+. Her mother has part-time work with advertising promotions in supermarkets. Ivy was in hospital from January to June 2008 with no diagnosis. In September 2008 she had a stroke and was hospitalised until the November. Her right side was affected and she hasn’t talked since September 2008. She is right handed. She was admitted again in March 2009 for 3 weeks for having convulsions. Her medication is now stabilised, she is improving but is not in school. She is very active and loves jumping. She will be going for an educational assessment before starting school in January 2010.
