DEVELOPMENT OF THE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Can you imagine playing football on a hard and unlevel field that has rocks protruding through the surface? Not to mention playing without football boots. This is currently the case for the children at the Hotcourses Primary School. We have a dream to give these hard-working children an opportunity to play on a safe and reliable surface, to provide them with a place where they can exercise and demonstrate their talents.

The children who attend the Hotcourses Primary School come from families who have been directly affected by AIDS. There are an estimated 1.1 million orphans in Kenya, of which 150,000 are HIV positive. By providing them with an education we are giving them the opportunity to improve the circumstances into which they were born.

It is our goal to provide the children who attend the Hotcourses Primary School with adequate sports facilities for their use. These include a level pitch and new goals so they can have a serious game of football. Surrounding the football field will be an athletic track that has a murram surface. This surface will allow track events to take place right outside the School. A tarmac basketball pitch and sand volleyball pitch are also in the proposal.

Along with the new and improved facilities, coaches and equipment are also an area where improvement is needed. Part-time coaches will be arranged to help instruct the kids in each sport. The children will also be provided with the necessities to play the sport of their choice, such as boots, balls, goals and much more.

Giving these children the opportunity to play sports will do wonders for their morale and motivation. Teamwork, trust and accountability will be a few of the many lessons that the children will receive through participating in sports. It is our hope that the success they have on the athletic pitches breeds to success in other areas of their lives.
