The Hotcourses Foundation was set up by Jeremy Hunt MP in 2004 with the help and support of employees and friends of Hotcourses, the UK's largest publisher of guides and websites to help people find the right university, course or college. Because Hotcourses is an educational publisher, we decided to set up a foundation to help fund the education of children in the developing world whose access to education was limited or non-existent. A solid education provides a way for the vulnerable to pull themselves out of poverty.

Our aims

Our objective is to make a measurable, tangible difference to the lives of children in some of the poorest parts of the world. Initially we have focused on AIDS-orphans in Kenya and HIV positive young adults in Uganda. We do this by providing money to fund their education and provide school uniforms and related resources. The Hotcourses Foundation is particularly proud of the primary school it built in Kitui, eastern Kenya, which came top in recent assessments of schools in the area.

What can I do to help?

How the Foundation is run

Most of the administration costs of the Hotcourses Foundation are covered by Hotcourses Ltd., so more than 95% of any donations go directly to our projects. We do not employ expensive expatriates to administer our projects on the ground, and only work through well-established local organisations where there is a track record of effective and corruption-free administration. Our main partner is Nyumbani, an organisation dedicated to helping children affected by AIDS and HIV in Africa, the board of Nyumbani UK is run by Simon Philips who is also on the Hotcourses Foundation board.

Trustees

The trustees of the Hotcourses Foundation are Simon Philips, Baroness Morris of Yardley (former Secretary of State for Education), Mike and Sarah Elms, the Right Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, Simon Cleaver and Alex Williams.
