CHANGING FUTURES: A HOTCOURSES FOUNDATION SUCCESS STORY

03 Dec 08

Many children have been helped by those supporting the Hotcourses Foundation, but one young lady in particular has a particularly inspirational story to tell about the effect Hotcourses Foundation education has had on her life.

fatuma “I wouldn’t have gone to college at all had it not been for The Hotcourses Foundation”, says 21 year old Fatuma. “My education gave me the way into employment that I needed.”

Fatuma works in the offices of Cinematic Solutions, the award-winning Kenyan film production company. It’s a far cry from the slums where she was born and where over half a million people still live. Diagnosed with HIV when she was just 11, Fatuma was one of first children to receive ARV therapy from the Leo Toto Programme.

Fatuma was lucky enough to attend primary and secondary school but after being orphaned in 2000 the funds were not available for her to continue with a college education. With a dream of working in the highly-competitive film industry, Fatuma approached The Hotcourses Foundation for help. She studied for a diploma in TV and reproduction at the Wilnag Academy and on the back of this she got a coveted internship at Cinematic Solutions.

The internship became a full-time job and now Fatuma spends her days editing films for such prestigious clients as Unicef. Life could have been very different for Fatuma if not for her own determination and for a helping hand from the Foundation, support made possible by our donors. Fatuma recognises that without an education she would have either been unemployed or simply scraping together a living. Instead a bright future beckons. Fatuma hasn’t forgotten the support she received from the Foundation and helps Jill collect information about the other children sponsored.

Help change the future for another child by sponsoring their education today.
